Hennlich, Jean (Marriage – 15 Apr. 1944)

Miss Jean Hennlich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hennlich, of Curtiss, was given in marriage by her father, to George Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Edwards of Owen, Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock in a ceremony performed at the Congregational church at Curtiss. Before the flower banked altar, vows were exchanged in a double ring ceremony with the Rev. M. C. Matthews officiating.

The bride wore a white satin gown made with a snug fitting bodice, buttoned down the back, long sleeves ending in a point over the hand and a long skirt with a train. The long illusion veil, trimmed with lace inserts fell from a head dress outlined with seed pearls, which matched the trimming at the neck of the bridal gown. Roses, carnations and calla lilies made up the bridal bouquet.

Pastel colors were used in the frocks of the bride’s attendants. Miss Evelyn Hennlich, a sister, was the maid of honor. She wore a yellow dress styled with a jersey bodice and skirt of net over satin and matching accessories.

Miss Dorathaleen Edwards, Owen, wore a pink frock with blue accessories, and Miss Emily Ann Hennlich wore a blue frock with pink accessories. All carried bouquets.

Mrs. Lee Smiley, in a dress of pink net over taffeta, played the wedding marches and accompanied Mrs. Donald Smiley, who wore a peach colored frock and sang “Because,” and “I Love You Truly.”

Following the ceremony a 6:00 o’clock dinner was served to the members of the immediate families. The wedding cake and candelabra were used as a center piece and the rooms of the Hennlich home were decorated in the colors of the gowns of the bride and her attendants.

A reception for about 75 guests followed after which a wedding dance was held at the Curtiss hall.

After graduating from the Owen high school in 1942, the bride was employed in Chicago and also at the post office in Curtiss. Mr. Edwards is employed by the South Green Grove Cheese Co., near Atwood and also helps his father on the farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwards are now at home to friends in Curtiss.

Among those from Abbotsford who attended the wedding were the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Emily Merwin, and her two cousins, the Misses Joyce Merwin and Dorothy Loucks.
