At 1:30 yesterday afternoon funeral services for Arthur William Laakso, 24, were held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen.  The parish pastor, Rev. Karl Wilkman officiated at the final rites for the youth who lost his life in a car crash Sunday afternoon.

 

Pallbearers were Oscar Makkonen, William Kangas, Robert Hautamaki, Thomas Allen, Donald Stolp and Kenneth Carlsen.  Carrying the floral offerings were Sally and Nancy Potocnik, Sandra and Shirley Laakso, Marie Poppe, Frances Doege and Betty Nichols.

 

Born Jan. 30, 1936, at Owen, Arthur was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Einar Laakso, city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.).  He was unmarried and after his graduation from the Owen-Withee school system in 1954 entered the armed forces serving four years in the Air Force.  He spent two years overseas to Africa and was also assigned to Guam for six months.  Since his return from the service he has been employed at the Frederick Post Manufacturing Corp.

 

He was a member of the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post of Owen who paid their final respects to him with military services at the graveside.

 

Mourning his tragic death are his parents, a sister, Mrs. D. (Audrey) Granquist, Gilman, and a brother, Oscar.
