George & Catherine (Hubing) Beaver

Loyal, Clark Co., Wisconsin

George Beaver was born in Jefferson County, Wisconsin February 23, 1877.  He was the son of John and Mary (Domine) Beaver.  His wife, Catherine was born on Christmas Eve, 1880.  She was the daughter of Michael Hubing from Grant township.

George and Catherine moved from Neillsville to Granton and purchased the building which is now a restaurant from Joe Hoover in 1901.  George operated a tavern there until 1918 when prohibition closed down that business.   He than did carpentry work and later was the janitor at the Granton schools, a position he held for sixteen years.

Catherine operated a candy and ice cream store and a bakery.  Later, she started a restaurant which her daughters, Rosetta Meyer and Anita Landgraf, later operated.

There were three children born to this union: Rosetta, Anita (mentioned above) and Leona (Mrs. H. A. Treu who lived in Appleton, Wisconsin).

In 1951, George and Catherine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  George died July 20, 1954 and Catherine died Oct. 18, 1955, just fifteen months later.  They are both buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
