John H. Christmas, Civil War Soldier 1845 - 1927 John was born 17 April 1845 in Sandusky, OH, the son of John and Adaline Christmas. At four years of age, he moved with his parents to Lansing, MI. In his seventeenth year, he enlisted as a drummer with Co. "G" of the 12th Mich. Inf., the day after Christmas, 1863. He was discharged as a Corporal, 15 Feb 1866. His hand was wounded during a skirmish near Clarinden, 26 June 1864 and during the Battle of Gettysburg, he was also injured.
He and his wife, Mary, had two daughters: Maud of Vents, OR and Eva of Huntington Bay, CA, and three sons: Claud of MT and Bert and George, whose whereabouts became unknown. Their son, Frank married on 18 June 1891 Effie Shupe, daughter of Andrew and Susana (Lintner) Shupe. Frank and Effie’s daughter, Hazel, married Arthur Winters and for a time lived in Fennimore. Claude, born 2 April 1877, married Alma and moved to Montana. John died at his Greenwood home 10 Jun 1927, and is buried in the Greenwood City Cemetery. His widow, Mary, married Tom Bundeson and was listed as his “Next of Kin” on his VGR.
