June 2007 – Married 60 years

Richard and Bernice Thompson

Richard and Bernice Thompson, of Lindsey, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2007.  An open house hosted by their children was held at the Town of Rock hall.

They were married June 2, 1947, by Reverend Dechant at Zion Evangelical Reformed Church in Neillsville.  Members of the wedding party were Kenny and Lois Kren, of Neillsville, as best man and maid of honor.

The Thompsons both graduated from Neillsville High School.  Bernice is the oldest daughter of Anna (Kren) Strebing, of Arpin, and Howard D. Strebing (deceased).  Richard is the oldest son of Josephine (Halvorson) Thompson and Lars Thompson (both deceased).

Bernice worked at Marshfield Doors for several years, retiring on July 23, 1991.  Dick also worked at Marshfield Doors, retiring in July 1980.

In their younger days, the Thompsons spent many hours roller skating at Hatfield and the old Armory at Neillsville.  The Silver Dome ballroom was a favorite hot-spot where they enjoyed dancing the night away.

The Thompsons had nine children, Mary (William) Kastern, of Chili; Connie (Ronald) Bredemann, of Hewitt; Kathie (Lonnie) Williams (deceased); Daniel (Jodee) Thompson, Marshfield; Peter Thompson, Town of Cary; Samuel Thompson (deceased); Richard S. Thompson Jr., Babcock; Melvin (Ruth) Thompson, Withee; and Amy (Craig) Bolz, of Medford.  They also have 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

The couple has been very busy during retirement, spending special moments with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, and fishing.  They are members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield.
