Charles J. Stannard Neillsville, Clark Co., Wisconsin
Charles J. Stannard, son of Daniel and Alvira Stannard, was born in St. Lawrence County, New York in about the year 1840. He served in the 13th Vermont Infantry during the Civil War. He had a brother named John, who also was a Civil War veteran and he too lived in Clark County, Wisconsin after the war. His sisters were Mrs. Alma Marsh, Mrs. Helen Hapgood and Betsey. Charles married Eunice Hurlburt on April 28, 1878 and they had one son, Daniel Dennis, who was born on July 9, 1880. Charles died on May 15, 1883 and his wife remarried J. W. Lynch in Clark County on December 6, 1886. Daniel married Anna Albert and they settled in St. Paul where they had two daughters, Grace and Loraine. Daniel’s occupation was locomotive engineer for the railroad and he died on June 29, 1969 in Ramsey County, Minnesota.

The Clark Republican and Press; 30 Mar 1899 Dan Stannard and Harry Robbins went to Stevens Point last Sunday to take a civil service examination held in that city on the following day. Dan took the railway mail clerk examination, while Harry wrote for a department clerkship. There were only 14 or 15 candidates for the examination, ten of whom wanted to be railway mail clerks.

Dan Stannard, who lives on the Northside, is enjoying a short lay-off. He works as the fireman on the steam shovel located at the Wedges Creek gravel pit.
