Alfred & Effie (Wiley) Kristiansen

Greenwood, Clark County, Wisconsin

 

Alfred Kristiansen was the son of Anton and Lena Kristiansen.  His father was born in Askin, Norway, March 12th, 1856, and when a boy went to Christiania, where he learned the shoemaker’s trade. In 1891 he and his family immigrated to Greenwood, Wisconsin, where he has operated a shoe store and repair shop and was considered an expert workman.  The family belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church and his father took an active interest in the Modern Woodman of America.

 

Alfred Kristiansen was born in 1879 in Norway and was a graduate of the Highland Park College of Pharmacy, De Moines, Iowa. In a letter to his father, President Rearick says: “Your son is counted as one of our most earnest students. He is an earnest, honest, enthusiastic worker.”  After graduation, Alfred was employed as a pharmacist at the Conroy City Drug Store and later owned his own store in Owen and then in Stanley, Wisconsin.

 

Tuesday, December 29, 1908, Alfred married twenty-two year old, Effie Wiley.  She was the daughter of Edwin R. and Elizabeth J. (Crothers) Wiley of Thorp and being a public school teacher, was well known to many young people.  She attended the teacher's institute in Neillsville.
