Isaac & Clara (Mumford) Wilcox

Weston, Clark Co., Wisconsin

Isaac  Wilcox was born in Warrensburg, Warren County, N. Y., March 8, 1847.  Enlisting in the Civil War at eighteen, with the Union Army, Co. D, 16th NY, he served his country until 21 Aug 1865.  After the war, he moved to Clark Co., WI., where he married Clara M. Wilson, Nov. 20, 1875. They resided on their farm at Christie for 28 years.  Four children were born to them: Maude Redmond of Portland, OR., Blanche Churchill Talbott, Ralph of Killdeer, ND. and Marion Post of Billings, MT.  From there, Isaac and Clara moved to Portland, OR, and resided there until 1911, when then moved to Quinion, ND, to homestead.  Six years later, Isaac suffered a stroke of paralysis.  His health steadily declined until a third stroke rendered him entirely helpless and he passed away the morning of 7 Jun 1922.  His casket was covered with the flag, a military salute was fired over the grave and taps sounded, as his remains were laid to rest right on the homestead in Killdeer, Quinion ND.   For him, last taps were sounded as he answered the last roll-call at the age of 75 years, two months and 29 days.

***Isaac Wilcox is also featured in the book, "Civil War Soldiers in the heart of Clark Co., Wisconsin."
