My mother wrote about the cheese factory that was located in the northwest corner of Section 8 in Town of Hoard:

When my brother (Emil Stasek) graduated from the 8th grade about 1920, he began working as an apprentice at the cheese factory near us for Charlie Bulgrin. He worked for $4 a month. My mother (Mary Stasek) also had the job of scrubbing the white aprons that Emil and Mr. Bulgrin wore every day. She used a scrubbing board and wash tub. Later on Ed Michaels bought the factory and Emil worked for him.

Emil got to be the youngest licensed cheese-maker in the state (age 16). My dad borrowed money and bought the cheese factory from Ed Michaels. Emil made the cheese and Mathilda (Stasek) helped. In the wintertime my dad walked to the factory every night and slept there, keeping a fire goring so the cheese wouldn't freeze. -- Helen (Stasek) Johnson

*The Staseks owned the factory, 1/2 mile north of their farm, from 1923-25.
