JIREH GATES


Died, at the residence of his son, Mr. Aaron Gates, in the Town of Eaton, Clark County on the 26th of Feb. 1874, Mr. Jireh Gates, aged 89 years and 11 days.


Mr. Gates was born in Connecticut in 1785, removed to New York when five years of age, in which state he spent most of his long life. He has resided in Clark County about two years.


He severed as a soldier in the war of 1812. Mr. Gates was blessed with remarkable health, being hale and hearty for one of his years until the day of his death, which finally came through the medium of no disease. It seems as though the wheels of life at the last being were out, stood still. The day before his death he walked about with his ease as usual, and when the final hour came, he breathed his last, eternally.
