OBITUARY OF MARY LAVINIA BAKER

Mary Lavinia Baker was the oldest daughter of David and Elizabeth Baker, pioneers of Wood County. She was born in New Boston, Ill., in January, 1839. Two years later she moved to Wisconsin, settling on the west side of the river in what is now a part of Wisconsin Rapids.
She was educated in the district schools of the early pioneer days and for several years was engaged in teaching and was also an interested church worker in the Congregational Church. When about 30 years of age she gave up teaching as a profession and became a nurse, being engaged in that profession for several years at Milwaukee and Merrill.

For the past few years she made her home here with her brother and sister, C.O. Baker and Mrs. S. Scribner, where she died Easter Sunday evening.

The body was taken to Wisconsin Rapids where funeral services were held at the George W. Baker home Thursday morning. Burial was made in Forest Hill Cemetery. The Rev. A. F. Leonad officiated.

Her life work was well done and few of us will live as long or as well and fewer yet will the Angel of death greet with such a loving touch.
