DR. G.L. BULAND DIES IN WEST (1861 - 1930)


From the Greenwood Gleaner and from the scrapbook of Mrs. Andrews, former librarian of The Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood, Wisconsin (Clark County).


Dr. G. L. Buland, prominent banker and citizen of Castle Rock, Washington, died Monday afternoon, February 17, cancer being the cause of his death.


Deceased will be remembered here by many of our readers as he practiced medicine in Greenwood from 1883 to 1899, and then moved to Castle Rock, Washington where he has since resided.


Mr. Buland was born in Leland, Illinois, on January 29, 1861, and spent his early life on a farm near the same place. He was educated in the schools of Chicago and graduated from Rush Medical college there. He then located at Greenwood, Wisconsin, where he practiced medicine for 15 years, coming west in 1899. He first settled at Montemmo, but stayed there only a few months and then went to Castle Rock where he established the Castle Rock Bank.


While in Greenwood he was in 1884 married to Miss Bertha E. Mason, who survives him. Besides the widow, he leave two daughters, Mrs. G.N. Campbell of Kalama, and Mrs. Arthur Bryan of Tacoma, a son, George L. Buland of Portland, and four grandchildren. Katherine and George Campbell Jr. of Kalama, Barbara Bryan and Nan Buland.


Funerals services were held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Church in Castle Rock.
