OBITUARY OF PATRICK H. CRONIN  (1864-1930)

On June 19, 1930 occurred the death of one of Greenwood's oldest and most respected citizens, Patrick Henry Cronin. Mr. Cronin had been in good health apparently and had worked as usual the day before his death. While occupied with his regular farm duties, he was suddenly stricken, death coming a few hours later, though he was conscious to the very last. He felt that he was getting better and expressed the thought just before he passed away.

Patrick Henry Cronin was born in Boston, Mass., June 29, 1864. His early childhood was spent in the east, later his parents moved to Janesville, Wis. In early manhood he was employed in Missouri, working as a fireman on the railway, thence going to Wabasha, Minn., where he was a salesman for the McCormick-Harvester Company. On July 13, 1891, he was united in marriage to Anna Heilman at Wabasha, Minn. To this union eleven children were born, Mary and Arthur dying in infancy. In 1898 the family moved to Greenwood, Clark County, Wis., where the deceased has resided since and where for many years he followed the trade of stone mason, though of late years he was engaged in farming.

Pat as he was familiarly called was well known to all and many will miss his cheery voice and friendly smile. He was a man of sterling qualities and honest worth, kind to his family and helpful to his neighbors. A loving father, husband and brother has gone on a while before and we are left to mourn his loss.

All of the children were present at the funeral services, which were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the German Reformed Church in Greenwood, Rev. Pfeiffer and Rev. Franzmeier conducted the hope inspiring services which were held both at the house and at the church. The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Greenwood Cemetery.

Those left to mourn his loss are his widow, Mrs. P. H. Cronin Jay Cronin, Margaret, (Mrs. Owen Williams) Esther, (Mrs. Walter Karau), Floyd Cronin, Gertrude Cronin, William Cronin, James Cronin, Rosella Cronin and Anna (Mrs. Phillip Vollrath. Two brothers, John Cronin of Greenwood and Dennis Cronin of Minneapolis, and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Whaley and Mrs. Mamie Mahoney of Minneapolis and Mrs. Ella Ewig of Milwaukee survive him, also five grandchildren.

The pallbearers were, Martin Yaniga, Herman Beyer, Frank Rajk, F. W. Vollrath, August Schwarze and John Longridge.
