JAMES WM. HANLEY (1921-2000)

James William HANLEY, 78, a long-time resident of Stanley died on January 14, 2000, at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chippewa Falls.

Jim was born in Stanley to William and Henrietta (LABELLE) HANLEY on March 11, 1921. He grew up here attending area schools. During World War II he was a member of the US Army, serving in the Red Arrow Division. Jim was wounded and received an honorary medical discharge.

He married Marie MILLER and resided in Stanley until he retired from the US Post Office. Marie passed away November 11, 1975.

On October 12, 1976, Jim was united in marriage to Irene HALLANGER of Thorp. Jim and Irene lived in Thorp for three years before moving to Chippewa Falls where they remained for 11 years before returning to Thorp where they lived since. The couple spent many of their winters in Phoenix, AZ.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Thorp two daughters, Karrin NAYES of Stanley and Jane (Terry) BOARDMAN of Greenville, NC one sister, Elizabeth BRANDSNESS of Waterloo grandsons, James Robert NAYES and his fiancee, Tammy, of Curtiss, William Joseph NAYES (and his friend, Paige) of Seattle, WA, Neil Anthony BOARDMAN and his fiancee, Danielle, of Greenville, NC, Ryan Michael BOARDMAN of Greenville, NC stepson, Hal (Ingrid) HALLANGER of Thorp grandchildren, Hans (Joy) HALLANGER of Milwaukee, Bethel HALLANGER of Madison, and Charles HALLANGER of Stougton great grandchildren, Austin, Ryleigh, and Kayla HALLANGER and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents his first wife, Marie, in 1975 three sisters, Mary HANLEY, Leona (Lawrance) MCKALE, and Petronella (Anker) SOLIE and one son-in-law, Robert NAYES.

James was totally devoted to his family and was an avid football fan. He was active in sports programs in the Stanley-Boyd School system for many years, besides serving on the Stanley-Boyd School Board. He loved traveling and being with people. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial to Holy Family Church.

The funeral was held Tuesday at Plombon's Funeral Home because of remodeling in the church. Father Robert Nelson officiated at the funeral mass. A burial service with complete military honors will be conducted in the spring at Holy Family Cemetery.
