MRS. IDA HOMMEL PASSES AWAY


Mrs. Ida Hommel, nee Ida May Allen, was born at Rio, WI, September 8, 1865 and was married on June 15, 1881 to George C. Carnegie at Portage. One son, Harry, was born to this union. He passed away in 1903.


Mr. Carnegie died on October 19, 1897. On September 6, 1905 she was married at Milwaukee to John W. Hommel of Neillsville and went to Neillsville where she has since resided. Mr. Hommel died on January 31, 1927.


Mrs. HOMMEL passed away at her home in Neillsville at 7:00 o'clock on Saturday eve, October 19, 1940. She had been in poor health for a number of years and was confined to her bed for the past 6 months.


She was a charter member of the Monday Progress Club and served as president for several years was a member of the school board for several years was secretary of the E. F. U. Chapter of Zion Reformed Church.


She is survived by two foster children, Mrs. Victor C. (Nina) WOEFLLER, Neillsville and Dr. P. R. HOMMEL, Elkader, Iowa and by Mrs. George (Lovella RUSSELL) MILLS, Leroy D. ALLEN and Lovel ALLEN of Chicago.


Funeral services were held at the Schiller Funeral home at 2 P. M. Tuesday, October 22, 1940 with Rev. Wilson BIXLER officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville cemetery.


Mr. and Mrs. H. L. FLATZ and Mr. and Mrs. Don WARNER from here attended the funeral. Mrs. FLATZ and Mr. WARNER are neiece and nephew of Mr. HOMMEL.
