Marie Horacek (1905-1999)


Marie Horacek, 94, Abbotsford, died Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Colonial House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Colby, where she had resided since April of 1997.


Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 24 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford with Rev. Al Jakubowski officiating. Inurnment took place at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago, Ill. Pallbearers were Paul Ruzicka, Kenneth Horacek, Kevin Horacek, Joseph Daniels, Jeremy Spoelstra, and Frank Schreiber.


Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford assisted the family with arrangements.


She was born August 29, 1905 in Czechoslovakia. She married Joseph Ruzicka, who died in 1961. She later married Peter Horacek in 1964, and he died November 18, 1983.


While living in Chicago, she was employed with Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital as a nurse's aid. Marie and Peter farmed in the Town of Johnson then moved to Abbotsford, Clark County, WI in 1967.


She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Parish Council of Catholic Women.


Survivors include one son, Frank (Nancy) Ruzicka, Crestwood, Ill. one step-son, Peter (Joyce) Horacek, Abbotsford eight grandchildren seven great-grandchildren five step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.


In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by one daughter, Georgianna Neff, brothers and sisters, and a step-great-granddaughter, Mikayla Daniels.
