ARVILLA HORN


Arvilla (Mrs. Harold) Horn, Greenwood, Clark County, passed away Saturday, July 27, 1991, at Neillsville Memorial Home after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 31, 1991, at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Wessel, Harold Laube, Roger Bolf, Everett Wessel, Jim Horn and Jerry Franz.


Arvilla Esther Franz was born Sept. 6, 1913, in the town of Warner, Greenwood, Wisconsin, to Henry and Augusta (nee Decker) Franz. She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Reformed Church. She attended Decker School and the German School at the church. At the age of 17 she left home to work in Milwaukee. On May 30, 1942, she was united in marriage to Theodore Rudolph Wessel, Greenwood. They operated a cheese factory west of Greenwood for a few years and then purchased a farm in the town of Warner where she resided until the death of her husband in 1967, when she moved to Greenwood. She was a member of the Immanuel Ladies Aid for many years and a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ. On March 7, 1970, she married Harold Horn and resided in Greenwood. She worked as a nurses aid at the memorial Home of Neillsville and did volunteer driving for Community Services for 10 years. After moving to Greenwood she transferred to Zion United Church of Christ in Greenwood. In April 1991 she was admitted to Memorial Home of Neillsville.


She is survived by her husband, Harold Horn a sister, Meta (Mrs. Mike Bolf) of Greenwood a brother, Leondo Franz, Wisconsin Rapids a son, Allan, Madison a step-son, James Horn, Greenwood a step-daughter, Eunice Schubert, Dousman six grandchildren and nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents three sisters, Minnie (Mrs. Henry Laube) Martha (Mrs. Harvey Schwarze) and Selma (Mrs. Dave Churkey) four brothers, Theodore, Emil, Oscar and Edwin her first husband, Theodore Wessel and her daughter, Lois (Mrs. James Wachmuth).
In lieu of flowers, the family will accept memorial, with charities named at a later date.
