OBITUARY OF HERMAN KALKOFEN

Herman Kalkofen was born in Saxony, Germany on Aug. 5, 1881. When a year old he came to this country with his parents and settled at Oshkosh, Wis. They later moved to Elmhurst, Wis. He was confirmed in the Christian faith at Antigo.

In 1902 he graduated from the Dairy school at Madison and made cheese in the Rollling Cheese Factory in Strassburg.

He was married to Miss Annie Schweitzer on Nov. 12, 1903. In 1915 they moved to Greenwood, Clark County, acquiring the Eaton Center Cheese Factory, thus living in this vicinity ever since.

Eight children were born to this union, three sons preceding their father in death.

His wife is left to mourn his passing, together with five children Christina (Mrs. Ernest Christie), Orville, Eva, Lester and Lila at home. Other survivors are his five brothers and four sisters.

He was in ill health since Jan. 29th of this year and twice received treatment at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. He died at his home near midnight on Memorial Day.

The pallbearers were six nephews, William, Clarence, Lawrence and Ervin Kalkofen, Herbert and Richard Quimby.

Honorary pallbearers were James Syth, Arthur Syth, Fred Kocher, Wm. Buchsteiner, Julius Ampe, George Schlinger.

Flowere grils were Mrs. Fred Kocher, Mrs. James Syth, Mrs. Wm. Buchsteiner, Mrs. Homer Potter.

Mr. Kalkofen was well liked by all who knew him and a very large crowd by sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral. The sympathy of all goes out to his wife and children in their bereavement.
