OBITUARY OF CLARENCE A. MASON
 

Clarence Austin Mason, son of James and Martha Mason, was born April 21, 1878 at Blanchardville, Wis. and was united in marriage to Mary Alma Watrud Feb. 20, 1907 at Blanchardville.

They moved to Greenwood, Clark County in 1915 and resided on the Joe Christie farm south of here and in 1920 to the Charles Varney farm northwest of Greenwood, where they resided until 1935 when they moved to this city.

Five children were born to this union, Minerva Eleanor (Mrs. A. M. Stommen) of Spooner, James Sever of Milwaukee, Zelda Ione (Mrs. L. L. Longridge) and Clarissa Almeta (Mrs. P. D. Steele) both of Greenwood and Robert William of Milwaukee.

Mr. Mason passed away at his home in this city very suddenly Wednesday morning July 16, 1941 of a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. A. J. Abbott officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery, where military services were conducted with the Otto A. Haugen American Legion Post No. 73 of Neillsville and Henry D. Wallis American Legion Post No. 238 of Greenwood attending in a body.

The procession was led by the Color Guard followed by the Firing Squad, after which came the County Service Officer John M. Peterson, County Commander of the American Legion, Harry Roehrborn and a Boy Scout Bugle Boy of Neillsville. Then the two legion posts, followed by the Honorary pallbearers, Frank Smaldone, Harry Stafford, Louis Brown, Clarence Haigh, Harry Godree and John Arends. The active Pallbearers H.R. Baird, C. A. Shields, Wm. Korupp, John Longridge, Otto Schwarze and George Scherer marched beside the hearse.

Those who had charge of the flowers were Mrs. Louis Brown, Mrs. Minnie Cox, Mrs. Albert Dahl, Mrs. Fred Behrens, Mrs. Frank Smaldone and Mrs. Lawrence Cox.

Mr. Mason served in the Spanish-American War in Company D, 1st Regiment. He enlisted May 14, 1898.
He is survived by his wife and the above named children and six grandchildren
His parents, two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.
