OBITUARY OF FRANCES MERKEL


Mrs. Frances Merkel died her Saturday morning at the home of her stepson, Joseph Merkel. The cause of her death being infirmities of old age.


Mrs. Merkel, nee Frances Oestreich, was born in Germany, Jan. 19, 1843. In 1896 she was married to Jacob Merkel, who preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1925. After coming to the United States from Germany, Mrs. Merkel lived at Marshfield until 1924, and since that time has made her home here (Greenwood, Clark County) with the Joseph Merkel family. She had reached the ripe old age of 89 years, 5 months and 20 days.


She was the mother of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by four stepsons and one stepdaughter, six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.


Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church Monday morning, Rev. G. H. Schuh officiating. Burial was made in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield.
