LOYAL PIONEER PASSES AWAY

Mary Ella Taylor
was born in Chicago, Ill., Dec. 16, 1852 and at an early age she came with her family to Clark County and settled in the southeastern part of the present township of Loyal.

On the 19th of March 1871 she was united in marriage to George Green, who came to Loyal from Dodge County in the spring of 1866 and settled on a homestead of 160 acres located in section 34, 1 miles southeast of the present village of Loyal.

In the late 70's or early 80's they moved to the village of Loyal, where she remained until sometime near Thanksgiving 1937, when on account of her age she entered the Sparta Memorial Home for the Aged.

To this union were born five children, Etta (Mrs. Andrew Schweiger), who preceded her mother in death about 26 years ago Daisey (Mrs. S. H. Garvin) of Edgemere, Idaho Mattie (Mrs. L. J. Randles of Marshfield Lottie (Mrs. Richard Diekow), Beloit, and one son James who died in infancy.

Mrs. Green was a great lover of flowers and her home as long as she was able to work among them, was surrounded by beautiful beds of flowers.
Coming to Clark County when it was covered with immense forests, she, with her husband, who preceded her in death in 1926, lived to see the transition from a wilderness to fruitful farms and beautiful homes.

Funeral services were held at the Loyal Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 6th, 1938, Rev. C.R. Gaylord officiating. Services were held in Sparta in the forenoon.
