Sowieja, Mary (1898 - 1978)


Mrs. Mary Sowieja, 80, formerly of 134 S. Main, Greenwood, Clark County, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 1978 at Mercy Hospital at Laredo, Texas. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 1978, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood with the Rev. Robert Houston officiating. Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rinka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sowieja was born May 8, 1898 at Morris, Minn. She received her education in rural schools at Swansville, Minn. She married Vincent Sowieja Feb. 10, 1920. The farmed for two years, 1920-22 near Swansville, Minn. They moved to Atwood in 1950, where they operated the Hilltop Tavern until 1965, when they retired and moved to the City of Greenwood. They celebrated their Golden Wedding on Feb. 10, 1970. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Altar Society and Royal Neighbors of American and the Legion Auxiliary.


Her husband preceded her in death in March of 1973.


Surviving are four sons, Eugene, Greenwood Ambrose, Milwaukee Jerome, Greenwood and James, Owen two daughters, Mrs. John (Ramona) Pavlow, Guadalajara, Mexico and Mrs. Allan (Eleanor) Lindenberg, West Allis one brother, Charles, Little Falls, Minn. 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.


Pallbearers were all grandsons, Mark Pavlow, Gene Sowieja, Jr., Charles Sowieja, Gary Sowieja, James Sowieja, Jr., and Dale Lindenberg.
