HAROLD HILLS


Harold Arthur Hills, 77, of 105 South Union St., Loyal, Clark County, died Thursday evening, July 13, 1978, while fishing near the Eau Claire River. Richard Schleifer, Clark County Deputy Coroner, ruled the death an apparent heart attack.


Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 16 at the United Methodist Church, Loyal. Mr. Hills was buried in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Sanford officiated.


Serving as pallbearers were Celen Gotter, Frank Schwanke, Bud Smith, Keith Zinsli, Neil Johnston, and Art Schuette.
Mrs. Connie Meyer was the soloist and Mrs. Julie Feldt the organist.


Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Hills was born Oct. 16, 1900 in the Town of Loyal. He graduated from Loyal High School in 1920. On Aug. 14, 1920, he married Anna Grace Degen in Spencer. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1970.


The Hills lived on a farm in the Town of Levis until moving to Loyal, where Mr. Hills was employed for 21 years by O. W. Trindal Co., the last year of which he was manager. He operated the H and H Oil Co. for five years in partnership with Harvey Gotter. He owned and operated the Loyal Freight Line for 15 years and drove a school bus for the Loyal School System for 24 years.


He was a member of United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge 335 of Loyal, serving several terms as master of the lodge and as treasurer. He was also a member of the Ear Claire Consistory.


Surviving are his wife one son, Dr. Eldon Hills of Ear Claire; one sister, Mrs. Gordon (Delana) Coates, Almond; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parent, five brothers and one grandchild.
