Koranda Jerry (1921 - 2001)


Jerry Koranda, 79, Neillsville, died on Friday, Jan 26, 2001, at his home in the town of Levis. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 29, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. His nephew, the Rev. Duane Walker, officiated. Interment was in the Dells Dam Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73 and the Wilson-Heintz VFW Post 2241. Pallbearers were his nephews.


Jerry Frank Koranda was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., to Frank and Ruzena (nee Divaky) Koranda. He attended school in Karlin, Mich., Des Plaines, Ill., and Carlyle School in the town of Levis. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in May 1946. He married Reta Walker on Sept. 21, 1946, in Neillsville. He was discharged from the Army in April 1947, after having served in Korea. Upon his return to the states, he began working at the paper mill in Wis. Rapids. He worked there for nine years and then in 1953, they returned to Neillsville to farm on his step-father Louis Matousek's farm, in the town of Levis. He was a member of the Bohemian Lodge, and was also an avid hunter and fisherman.


Survivors include his wife, Reta Koranda, Neillsville one daughter, Rosalie (Tom) Tibbett, Neillsville two grandsons, Jason, Neillsville and Phillip, Jacksonville, Fla. a friend, Lea Sterry, Neillsville one sister-in-law, Nita (Eugene) Diercks, Vesper many nieces and nephews and many friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Louie Matousek.


Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
