Hodgson, Etta M. (1909 - 2001)

Etta M. (Gregory) Hodgson, 91, Loyal, died on Monday, March 5, 2001, at Colonial House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Colby. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 8, 2001, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser officiated. Burial was in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dan Froeba, Greg Durst, Rick Osborn, Tom Beaver, Bruce Olson, and Lawrie Beaver.

Etta May Beverley was born on April 2, 1909, in Oregon, Ill., to garner and Ida (nee Bradstreet) Beverley. She received her education in Illinois, attended East Aurora High School, Aurora, Ill. After completing her education, she married Theodore Gregory in 1929. They moved to Withee, where they farmed for many years before moving to Loyal. In Loyal, they owned and operated Gregory Implement. She also worked at the Loyal phone co., cannery, and was a cook at the local restaurants. They sold the implement dealership and then moved to the Granton area, where they owned a beverage distributorship. They divorced in 1955. In 1956, she married Donald Stabnow of Greenwood, where she assisted him with the Stabnow Funeral Home. Her husband died in 1966. She then married Roy Hodgson in Chetek in 1968. While there, she was a cook for several of the resort supper clubs. He died in 1972. She remained in Chetek and continued to work as a cook until moving back to Loyal. After moving back to Loyal, she cooked at the Amber Inn before retiring. She resided in Loyal until entering the nursing home in Dec. 1999. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary in Chetek, and the VFW Auxiliary in Sun Prairie. She loved cooking and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly (John) Beaver, Loyal, Donna (Tom) Froeba, Colby, and Sharon Durst, Sun Prairie 17 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husbands one son, Arthur, in 1994 one son-in-law, Jerry Durst and three sisters, Jessie Marvin, Jean Perrin, and Dorothy Bero.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
