Perko, Madeline M. (1910 - 2001)


Madeline M. Perko, 90, Mercer, formerly of Lac du Flambeau, died on Friday, April 13, 2001, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls, Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 16, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, Clark County. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stanley Suda, Howard Perko, Justin, Pierce, Jim Christianson, Patrick Schreiner, and Thomas Schreiner.


Madeline M. Suda was born on May 28, 1910, in Richland Center, to Joseph and Antonia (nee Parizek) Suda. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm north of Loyal, where she was raised and educated. She married Charles Perko on May 30, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio. They owned and operated a meat market in Cleveland before moving to Willard. In Willard, they owned a general country store and gas pumps, a feed mill, clothing and groceries. Later, they were one of the first John Deere implement dealers in central Wisconsin, starting in Willard and then expanding to Marshfield and finally to Neillsville. They retired in 1950 and moved to Lac du Flambeau until moving to Mercer in 1996.


Survivors include three children, Jeanette (James) Schreiner, Marshfield, Charles Perko, Jr., Laredo, Texas, and Edward (Kathryn) Perko, Mercer nine grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Agnes Rueth-Bargander, Marshfield.


She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Charles and four brothers.


Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
