Nichols, Adam S. (1923 - 2001)

Adam Mack S. Nichols, 77, Loyal, Clark County, formerly of Eminence, Mo., died on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield. Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m., on Thursday, May 10, at Duncan Funeral Home, Eminence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, May 11, at Duncan Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Younger will officiate. Burial will be in the Munsell Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cliff Scott Hunt, Carl Gehrt, Keith Powell, Adam Hunt, Ken Tarter, and Lance Nichols.

Adam S. Nichols was born on Aug. 23, 1923, in Angeline, Mo., to Charles J. and Birdie M. (nee Strain) Nichols. He received his education in Eminence, and graduated from high school in 1941. He then entered the U.S. Army on June 11, 1946, where he served in the states and overseas in Japan. He was honorably discharged on June 12, 1947, and returned to Eminence. He worked as a carpenter and a logger, traveling to Oregon and Washington to work in the woods. He married Ruby J. Tarter on Dec. 21, 1963, at the Baptist Church in Eminence. In 1965, they moved to Rockford, Ill., where he worked for Quaker Oats, before moving to Loyal in 1969. While in Loyal, he worked for Jim Wangen until moving back to Eminence in 1975. They resided in Eminence until returning to Loyal in 1986, where he had resided until the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, puzzles, and had a great love for storytelling, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Nichols, Loyal two daughters, Robbie (Cliff Scott) Hunt, Loyal, and Cindy (Carl) Gehrt, Loyal five grandchildren, Adam, Jamie and Bradley Hunt, and Lena and Megan Gehrt one sister, Edith Haycraft, Rockford, Ill. and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents two sisters, Stacy Knight and Shannon Collyott and six brothers, Odas, Cecil Jene, Danny, Freeman, Wilbur Buck , and Charles.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, is assisting the family with arrangements.
