Hoeft, C.F. Ray (1917 - 2001)


C. F. Ray Hoeft, age 84, of Granton, Clark County, died on Monday, June 25, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., Thursday, June 28, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Granton. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dean Pingel will officiate. Interment will be in the Windfall Cemetery, Granton. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jim, Scott and Christopher Hanson, rod Fisher, Kory Braatz, Curt, Wayne and Steve Fleischmann.


C.F. Ray Hoeft was born on June 17, 1917, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Frank A. and Ottelia E. (nee Moenicke) Hoeft. They moved to Clark County in 1927, where he farmed with his family and attended school. He is remembered as the Egg Man to many, as he gathered eggs from area farms. Trucking was his business, which took up 32 years of his life. For six years, He was associated with Black River Campers of Loyal, where he spent most of his time seeing the country as he delivered campers to dealers, after they had been manufactured. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as president of the congregation and saw their new church built. He served from 1946 to 1954 on the school board and was president for eight years. A charter member of the Granton Rotary, he belonged for 43 years, and spent 40 years on the Granton Fire Department. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association, and was a lifetime member and director of the Southern Clark County Sportsmen Club. He married Esther Wagenknecht at Kiel, on Nov. 12, 1938. She died in 1990. He then married Dolores Fleischmann on Jan. 21, 1995, in Granton.


Survivors include his wife, Dolores two daughters, Marie (Jim) Kohlbeck, Marshfield, and Nancy (Dale) Braatz, Tomahawk two sisters, Frances Drescher and Eileen LePori, both of Loyal one step-daughter, Darlene (Rich) Deiss, Omro two step-sons, Dennis (Emily) Fleischman, Neillsville, and Don Fleischmann, Marshfield a daughter-in-law, Veronica Hoeft, Granton four grandchildren seven step-grandchildren five great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther a son, Bill his parents one brother and one sister.


Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
