Alexander, Walter A. (1921 - 2001)


Walter A. Alexander, 80, Neillsville, Clark County, formerly of Loyal, died on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Memorial Medical Center Nursing Home, Neillsville. Private graveside services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, North Green Grove.


Walter Alvin Alexander was born on March 23, 1921, to Ernest and Bird Alice (nee Ball) Alexander in Mt. Hope Township, Grant County. He farmed with his family. He served the United States Army and was stationed in Normandy, Northern France, Aredennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II. He was a heavy truck driver and served from Sept. 25, 1942 to Nov. 26, 1945. He married Elaine Brecker on March 20, 1946, in Neillsville. The were later divorce. He farmed in the town of Beaver and also served as a patrolman and assessor for Beaver township. He worked for Dickman Home in Spencer and hauled milk for Wis. Dairies. He retired in 1992. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Colby. He enjoyed baseball, bowling and carpentry.


Survivors include two daughters, Marie (Sheldon) Heck, Greenwood, and Marlene (Patrick) Duell, Loyal two sons, Dale (Shannon Fischer) Alexander, Stratford, and David (Cheryl) Alexander, Marshfield six grandchildren three step-grandchildren seven great-grandchildren three step-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Leora Lange, California, and Esther Millin, Fennimore.


He was preceded in death by his parents five brothers, Floyd, Melvin, Delos, Cecil, and Roscoe and one daughter, Marcella.


Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
