Gonnering, Matilda (1911 - 2001)


Matilda Tillie Gonnering, 90, Marshfield, formerly of Colby, Clark County, died on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 4-8 p.m., at Community Funeral Home, Colby, and Thursday, Aug. 30, from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. John Malik will officiate. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.


Matilda Heindl was born on March 25, 1911, in Dorchester, to Martin and Theresa (nee Dessel) Heindl. She attended Hilltop school. She married Clarence Gonnering on June 6, 1940, in Dorchester. They farmed in the town of Mayville until May 1966, when they moved to Colby, where she was a child care provider. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and gardening. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Colby, the Dorchester Senior Citizens, and the former Hilltop Homemakers.


Survivors include five children, Gerald (Mary) Gonnering, Dorchester, Robert (Barbara) Gonnering, Curtiss, Dennis (JoAnn) Gonnering, Spencer, Leon (Shirley) Gonnering, Marshfield, and Marlene Suckow, Marshfield 19 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren two sisters, Celia (Henry) Feldbruegge, Dorchester, and Gertrude Rozak, Milwaukee three brothers, Everett Heindl, Milwaukee, Wilfred (Betty) Heindl, Dorchester, and Clemence (Margaret) Heindl, Stetsonville.


Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence, on May 3, 1972, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.


Community Funeral Home, Colby, is assisting the family with arrangements.
