Brokaw, David (1812 - 1878)

Died, in the town of Grant, Clark County, Wis., April 10th, 1878, Mr. David Brokaw, aged 65 years, seven months and four days.

Mr. Brokaw was born in the state of New York. He lived many years in Oberlin, Ohio. Later in life he made his home in Oconomowoc, Wis.. In 1874 he removed to Clark County, where he has been widely known for his success in bee culture.

His health was long ago impaired, and for several years previous to his death he was a great sufferer. But in former years he had been full of enterprise and of business. As a teacher and as County Superintendent of Schools in New York, his standing was high. While in Ohio he became an artist of note, and executed portraits for some of the most eminent men of the nation. And thus did he make himself proficient in all that he undertook.

Prolonged and intense suffering alone retarded his prosperity. By all he was regarded as a man of high attainments and solid worth. He had long been known as a worker in the temperance cause. But he was known, best of all, as an officer in the Church. Here his faith and zeal were of a very high order. For two years he had been a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church of Neillsville, and he was known in the Presbytery as a man of mark.
He leaves a wife, one son and two daughters.

True to himself, true to his family, true to his country, true to the church, and true to his God, David Brokaw lived a life of faith, and has gone home to his reward.

*David was born 6 Sep 1812, in Seneca, NY and was the son of Isaac I. & Elizabeth (Coshun) Brokaw.
