Benedict, Rollie (1891 - 1981)


Rollie Benedict, 90, of 210 East 4th St., Neillsville, Clark County, died at 10 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 29, 1981, at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the York Center Cemetery. A Memorial service followed at York Center Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. Officiating was Rev. Charles Sanford.

Rollie Benedict was born on July 28, 1891, to Sanford and Margaret (nee Lawrence) Benedict, in the Town of York, Clark County. He received his education at York Center School.

He and Alice Young were married on Jan. 17, 1913, at Loyal. They farmed in the Town of York until 1924, when they moved to Mosinee, where he worked for the paper mills until 1931. He then returned to the Town of York, where he was active in the bee and honey business and also sold household products. He was a bee inspector for the state and later for Clark County. He was a state deputy for the Wisconsin Grange for several years. He moved to Neillsville in 1975, where he made his home ever since.

He was a member of York Center Methodist Church.

Surviving him are his wife, Alice, and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Joe Zvolena, Jesse Zvolena, Warren Mechelke, Earl Falconer, Glen Lavey and Ray Hetzel. Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, handled arrangements.
