Leatherdale, Bernard (1904 - 1983)


Bernard Leatherdale, 79, of 303 S. Division St., Loyal, Clark County, died in his hotel room, where he lived, on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1983.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 1983, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal. Officiating was Rev. James Logan.

Interment was in the parish cemetery, with Byron Zepplin, Bernie Schmidt, George Zuehlke Jr., Don Kauffman, Gene Stumpner and Robert Rueth serving as pallbearers.

Full military rites were conducted by the Loyal American Legion

Bernard Leatherdale was born on Jan. 29, 1904, in the Town of Loyal to Amos and Mary (nee Baker) Leatherdale. He received his education at Loyal Schools.

He did construction work for Bert Mengel and did painting and wall papering.

He was a World War II veteran and served his country from Sept. 1942 until Jan. 1945. He was a member of the Loyal American Legion. He was never married.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Irene Stillman of Granton and Mrs. Ethel Wicks of Granton and one brother, Gerald of Billingham, Wash.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister.

Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, handled arrangements.
