Vern Allen Gardner, 66, Loyal, Clark County, died Friday, July 12, 1996, at Bethel Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Arpin.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 1996, at the Loyal United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dekker officiated. Burial was in the Loyal City Cemetery.


Vern Allen Gardner was born on May 25, 1930, in the Town of Beaver, to Floyd and Margaret (nee Zuege) Gardner. He received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School. He married Noreen Tucker on Sept. 4, 1948, in the Town of Eaton. She survives.


He started farming in April 1949 and farmed until retiring in the fall of 1989, when he moved to Loyal. He worked temporarily for the City of Loyal and the Loyal School District. He served on the Farm Home Administration Board, Clark County Board, Loyal School Board and was the Town of Eaton assessor. He entered the nursing home in Nov. 1995. He was a member of the Loyal United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and camping.


Survivors include his wife two daughters, Wendy (Bruce) Miller, Stevens Point and Kathy (Mark) Smith, Springfield, Va. two sons, Roderick Bucky (Barbara Knack) Gardner, Loyal and Gary (Sandra) Gardner, Woodstock, Ill. six grandchildren and three sisters, Lucille Sommers, Curtiss Lorea (Harold) Kollmansberger, Loyal and Velma (Elmer) Gotter, Loyal.


He was preceded in death by his parents his step-father, Ernst Hinkelmann one daughter, Peggy and one brother, Harold.
Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
