Genteman, William R. (30 DEC 1916 - 26 FEB 2002)


William Genteman, 85, Chili, Clark County, died on Tuesday, Feb.26, 2002, at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph 's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 2,at Christ Lutheran Church, Chili. The Rev. John Trewyn officiated. Music was provided by Caroline Helm, organist. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, David Berlick, Nathan Genteman, William Genteman Jr., Zachary Genteman, Ron Langreck, Steve Langreck, Greg Lucas, Kevin Lucas and Willie Lucas.

William Reinholt Genteman was born on Dec.30, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., to Carl and Sophie (nee Dalawska) Genteman. When he was a child, his family moved to Neillsville, town of Levis, where he attended the Town of Levis Grade School. He married Lura Mills on Aug.10, 1939, in Waukan, Iowa. The couple farmed in the town of York for 32 years. Later, they were in partnership with a daughter and son-in-law in the Chili IGA business. After leaving the IGA, he was a patrolman for the town of Lincoln and operator of a pumping service. He and his wife both retired in 1981.

Survivors include his wife, Laura six children, Bonnie (Francis) Langreck, Granton, Betty Berlick, Marshfield, Barbara (William) Lucas, Willard, William Genteman Jr., Pewaukee, Larry Genteman, Chili, and Vern (Cathy) Genteman, Wisconsin Rapids 19 grandchildren 32 great-grandchildren two great-great-granddaughters one brother, John (Dolores) Genteman, Marshfield and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents a stepfather two grandchildren, Marilyn and Tom and a son-in-law, David Berlick.

Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
