McClenehan, Edith (1857 - 26 JUL 1881)

Edith, wife of James H. McClenehan and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Wilcox, of the town of York, died at the Reddan House, in this village (Neillsville, Clark County), last Tuesday morning, July 26, 1881, of consumption, aged twenty-four years.

The deceased was born at Black River Falls, where the greater portion of her life was spent. In Dec., 1878, she was married to J. H. McClenehan, and went with him to his home at Anderson, Ind., where they lived until July 1879, when her health becoming impaired her husband brought her to this place to visit with her friends . Her health continuing to fail, it soon became evident that she would never again be restored to health, and her husband, who ministered to every want and wish throughout her long and tedious illness, gave up his own home and remained here that she might recover and helped soothe the anxiety of her friends, but for nearly a year past her suffering were almost continuous, during which time the noblest attributes of womanhood were ever manifested in her all absorbing love for her husband and the patience with which she endured and suffered. Her remains were taken to Black River Falls for burial on Tuesday evening, and were followed to the depot at this place by many sorrowing friends. At Black River Falls the remains were met at the depot by a procession of eighteen carriages, filled with sorrowing friends and acquaintances of former days, and escorted to the residence of Hon. W.T. Price, where they remained until the next morning when the funeral, which was largely attended, took place from the M.E. Church, the service being conducted by the Rev. B. E. Wheeler.
