Celen Ferdinand Gotter, 88, Loyal, Clark County, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, at Marshfield Nursing Rehabilitation Center.


Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 1996, at the United Methodist Church, Loyal. Rev. Steve Groves and Rev. Sharon Stewart-John officiated. Burial was in the Loyal City Cemetery.


Pallbearers were Roy Gotter, Gary Gotter, Jeff Gotter, Arvin Verhulst, Jerry Verhulst and Steven Christman.


Celen Ferdinand Gotter was born on Oct. 30, 1907, in Lynn, to Richard and Elvina (nee Jensen) Gotter.


He received his education in Lynn area schools. He helped his father make cheese until he was done with school. He married Harriet Verhulst on Aug. 20, 1931, at the United Methodist Church, Greenwood. She survives. He worked for Braun Auto Company in Loyal as a mechanic from 1927 1962. He then worked for Norman Luchterhand Trucking as a mechanic. Later he worked for E-Z Kamper and Roth Manufacturing as a designer fabricator until his retirement in 1978. During his retirement he enjoyed repairing small engines, fishing and boating. He lived in Loyal for more than 53 years. He was a Loyal School Board member from 1942 1965 served on the Loyal Cemetery Board from 1974 1990 was a member of the Rotary, in which he was a past president and was a member of the Loyal United Methodist Church.


Survivors include his wife one daughter, DonaMae (Paul) Dekker, Loyal two grandchildren six great-grandchildren two brothers, Harvey (Ruth) Gotter, Springfield, Ore. and Elroy (Claudine) Gotter, Eau Claire and two sisters, Arlene (Rupert) Christman, Marshfield and Elaine (Paul) Degenhardt, Marshfield.


He as preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (two in infancy) and one sister.


Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
