Rita Irene Carteron, 73, Greenwood, Clark County, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice Care Unit, Marshfield.


Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood. Father Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Abel, Dale Brux, Mark Brux, Dave Hinker, Robert Clark and Jerry Hinker.


Rita Irene Gaudette was born on March 13, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass., to Peter and Genevieve (nee Doiron) Gaudette.


She received her education at St. Ann's Parochial School and Lawrence High School, Mass. After her education she worked for six years in the woolen mills. She married Eugene B. Carteron on Sept. 1, 1945, in Lawrence, Mass. They moved to Greenwood in 1945. She worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Bank for many years and volunteered at St. Mary's School as well as the elementary and high school in Greenwood. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Society, where she served as chair lady of St. Lucy's Group. She belonged to TOPS Senior Citizens Club Social Club and Good Timers Club, where she served as treasurer.


Survivors include three sons, Ronald E. (Alice) Carteron, Stratford Denis J. (Janice) Carteron, Fort Atkinson and John D. (Laurie) Carteron, Neillsville two daughters, Gail M. (Richard) Ermilio, Oswego, Ill. and Ritajean (Michael) Myers, Onalaska five grandchildren seven step-grandchildren 19 step-great-grandchildren two brothers, Ernest Gaudette, Methuen, Mass. Emile (Helen) Gaudette, Lawrence, Mass. and two sisters, Mary Bernard, Salem, NH and Sister Arlene Gaudette, Methuen, Mass.


She was preceded in death by her parents one brother, Henry and one sister, Doris Tardiss.


Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
