Conrad, Phyllis S. (17 Feb. 1920 - 8 May 1993)


Phyllis S. Conrad, 73, Greenwood, Clark County, died Saturday, May 8, 1993, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1993, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Longwood, Withee. Rev. Joseph Kraly officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Town of Hixon. Pallbearers were Allen Borgeson, Vernon Mech, Jeff Karlen, Dennis Wendt, Ralph Rusch, and Bruce Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Borgeson and Jerome Jacobs.


Phyllis S. Swenson was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Escanaba, Mich., to Arthur and Florence (nee Rittenhouse) Swenson. She moved with her parents to La Farge and then to Longwood at an early age. She attended Longwood State Grade School and was a graduate of Greenwood High School in 1938. She married Francis A. Conrad on June 2, 1940, in the Town of Longwood. He preceded her in death March 27, 1991. After their marriage, they moved to Flemington, N.J. She and her husband returned to farm in Longwood. She moved to Greenwood in 1991. She attended the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire adult classes, obtaining her Insurance license and management degree. From 1956 to 1989 she was employed by Badger State Agri Credit of Greenwood as a loan officer until her retirement in 1989. She was a 4-H leader in Longwood for 27 years, coordinated the state Fairest of the Fair for 17 years and also coordinated the Miss Clark County Contest for 24 years. She coordinated the Miss Greenwood Pageant for 10 years. She was named Outstanding Citizen in 1984 of Longwood Township, received the State Fair Mavis Award in 1979, Friend of Clark County 4-H, and was the Parade Marshall for Greenwood Dairy Days in 1980. In 1989, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce awarded her as Outstanding Citizen and she also received the Greenwood High School Outstanding Alumni Award the same year. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.


Survivors include many cousins, nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.


Maurina Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
