Palmer, Harvey (21 SEP 1808 - 6 APR 1888)

Rev. Harvey Palmer was born in Otsego County, N.Y., Sept. 21, 1808. His parents moved to Herkimer County, N.Y., about his period of his life. In 1853 he came to Lafayette County, Wis. He joined the Wis. Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church and filled the following appointments: Wingville, Beetown, Sauk Prairie, Paoli, Springfield, Baraboo, and Dodgeville. He came to Clark County in 1863. Here he engaged in farming and lumbering, at the same time doing the duties of a local preacher in the M.E. Church. He filled appointments many times for the regular preacher, solemnized marriages and conducted funerals. On March 23, 1832 he married Miss Emeline Coon, of New York, who died March 16, 1881. He leaves four children, Hiram, William Ann, now Mrs. Orville Cornwell, and Laura, now Mrs. Dr. I. H. Marsh.

Mr. Palmer has been Town Treasurer and Supervisor, and has held other offices.

He ceased to live in this world at 10 o'clock p.m. April 6th, 1888. His funeral was conducted from the M.E. Church in Neillsville, Sunday last, Rev. J. H. McManus having charge.

Mr. Palmer was a good citizen, a faithful Christian, a kind husband, a loving father, and a true friend, so that all who knew him regret his departure. Yet he had lived to a good old age, almost reaching four score years, so there was little hope that he could remain longer with us.
