Goetz, John (28 April 1876 - 18 June 1875)

AREA'S OLDEST CITIZEN, JOHN GOETZ, DIES FOLLOWING SHORT ILLNESS

John Goetz, 99, route 1, Greenwood, Clark County, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on June 18, 1975, at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. He had been admitted a week earlier when he suffered a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Father Norbert E. King as principal celebrant, and Rev. Chester Osowski co-celebrant. Rev. Jerome Hoeser of St. Thomas Moore of La Crosse was also a co-celebrant.
Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were James, Jerome and Arnold Becker, Kenneth Goetz, Nathan Noeldner, and Donald Noeldner, all grandsons.
A PCCW rosary was conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, with a Prayer Service at 8:30 p.m.

The Rinka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John Goetz was born in Doberstof, Germany, April 28, 1876, and came to America with his parents, three sisters, and a brother at the age of 8, and settled at Jefferson, Wis. After three years in Jefferson, the family moved to Heintown. He worked for the sawmill at Heintown, and married the former Maggie Newhouse at Tony on June 6, 1906. He later took over his father's farm.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 16, 1970 at the age of 85.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and its Holy Name Society.

John Goetz is survived by one son, Roman, route 3, Neillsville, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Fenner, South St. Paul, and Mrs. Herman (Lucille) Noeldner, route 2, Loyal, 16 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, hew was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Delbert (Florence) Becker.
