Brown, Laverne W. (9 OCT 1920 - 6 APR 2002)


Laverne "Bud" W. Brown, 81, Greenwood, Clark County, died on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at noon on Wednesday, April 10, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood.  The Rev. Michael Kennedy officiated.

Laverne William Brown was born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Greenwood, to Louis and Hazel (nee Murphy) Brown. He was raised and educated in Greenwood, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1938. He attended the Milwaukee
School of Barbering and moved back to Green-wood to work with his father. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 9, 1942, and served over-seas with the 2nd Battalion, 377th Infantry, 95th Division, under Gen. George S. Patton. He was
honorably discharged on Nov. 19, 1945, and returned to Greenwood to continue working as a barber. He married Erma Nimbar on Oct. 25, 1947, in Owen. He worked as a barber and resided in Greenwood his entire life. He was a member of
Zion United Church of Christ. He was a member of the Greenwood Fire Department for more than 50 years and was one of the first EMTs on the Greenwood Ambulance Service. He served on the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the
Greenwood Festivals Committee and was a fire inspector for the city of Greenwood and surrounding townships for many years. He was a member of the 40 et 8 Club, the Greenwood American Legion, was a past county commander of the
American Legion, and a past member of the Greenwood VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Erma, Green-wood one daughter, Tami Holm, Greenwood one son, Darrel (Ardis) Brown, Madison seven grandchildren, Julie and Natalie Brown, Carrie, Maxwell and Luke Holm, and Jennifer and Christina
Antrim and his mother-in-law, Vernie Decker, Greenwood.

Preceding him in death were his parents one daughter, Terri Antrim and one granddaughter, Sherida Holm.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
