ELVERA HUMKE

Elvera V. Humke, 69, Greenwood, Clark County, died Friday, Feb. 10, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1995, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood.

Elvera V. Reineking was born on Jan. 29, 1926, in Greenwood, to Otto and Olga (nee Meinholdt) Reineking. She attended Greenwood High School and graduated from college in Stevens Point with a two-year degree in teaching. She taught in rural school from 1947 1952. On June 4, 1949, she was married to Orlin August Fravert.

They had three children. In 1953, she received her three-year teaching degree and in 1956 her four-year Bachelor of Education Degree from Stevens Point College. The couple farmed in the Town of Warner until Orlin's death. Following his death, Elvera resumed he education and in 1969 she received her master's degree in education. She was the audiovisual director for Greenwood schools and later returned to the classroom and taught first grade. She had taught for a total of 38 years. On Dec. 16, 1972, she married Elmer Humke in Greenwood. Since her retirement in 1988, she has remained actively involved in school activities. She had served on the SEC steering committee for five years, School Evaluation Consortium and the SEC Library Subcommittee. She volunteered for Companion Reading and book sales, and was an active substitute teacher for both the elementary and high school. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She sang in the choir for 48 years, was church historian, served as general chairwoman for the church centennial in 1974, and was a member of the Adult Fellowship. She served on the Greenwood Centennial Steering Committee and was also publicity chairwoman. She had also served on the Alumni Committee since 1987 and was chairwoman of the Alumni Scholarship Fund. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives and was also a member of a cancer support group. She received the 1994 Outstanding Alumni Award from her graduating class of 1994.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer Humke, Greenwood three children, Margaret (Juan) Geracaris, Greenwood Mark (Deborah) Fravert, Schofield and Marilyn (Robert) Zettler, Onalaska five grandchildren one brother, Norman Reineking, Colby one sister, Dotty (Dale) Vollrath, Green Bay and cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Orlin.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be used to establish a scholarship fund.
