Bennett/Christy/Clark Connections
Hi! I have recently been able to obtain further data on my Clark line. The problem is that I have not been able to verify it. Can anyone help me? My ggrandfather William Henry Clark has been a brick wall. He was born in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada in 1853. His parents are listed as Martin & Dena (Bennett) Clark, but I can find no records of them. In 1853 Martin & Dena Clark moved from Woodstock to Wisconsin and were supposed to have settled in the Beaver Dam, Wisconsin area. At the age of 4, William moved with a Taylor family to the Tomah, Monroe County, Wisconsin area and later lived with a family named Christy. At age 15 he moved to Brandon, Wisconsin to live with his Mother (no mention of his father). He had a sister named Grace who was married to a Hazen and they resided in Duluth, Minnesota. In my searching I have some doubts about Dena's maiden name of Bennett. It may be Burnett. I also think that she may have remarried and moved to Brandon, Wisconsin from Beaver Dam. I can only guess as to the why. On the back of William Henry's pocket watch are initials etched into the casing. If I am correct, it appears to be a form of a family tree. There are three columns with five to seven sets of Initials in each column. In the last column the first set of initials is M.C. which may stand for Martin C. Clark. Does anyone have a Martin or Martin C. Clark in their line? If so, please contact me. If this is a form of a family tree, then I have priceless heirloom for a lot of Clark descendants. Since these surnames are in this Clark County, WI data base, I'm hoping to find some of my missing puzzle pieces. Patsy downpat@ecol.net |
