Botterud Connections in Curtiss, WI
I have found some more relatives from the Botterud family, or rather they have found me. There were one brother who we knew very little about, but his descendants made it quite well. One daughter married a wellknown Norsk-American by the name of Julius Baumann who was a poet in the norwegian society in America at turn of the 20th century. He is mentioned on Norwegian American History Association's web pages. I have quite recently been in contact with a fellow from Curtiss who lives right up the road from where the Botterud's settled in Curtiss. I found this thanks to your plat-map. He was unsure of which place it was. But he had a book on the centennial of Cutiss from 1882 till 1982 which he very gently has promised to send me. I don't know what to say about people's trust in a complete stranger from all across the Atlantic. I shall of course compensate him the costs he had. Would you mind if I sent him the plat-map you sent me? Then he may be able to orientate where the farm is. He also said that he was living quite close to the old Norwegian cemetary. I could however not find the cemetary on the plat-map of 1893. I find on your usgennet pages the Curtiss cemetary on Willow road. Is this the same? The Botterud farmers were actually living on Pine road as far as I can tell from the maps. So is the fellow I am talking about. I am every now and then onto your postings to have a glance at what is on. Always something new I find. Still no news for me from Curtiss. All the best from us here in Norway to you and Stan, Your friend Svein Botterud Tel.:+47 67 54 70 62 Mob.:+47 90 62 36 01
