Every Saturday pine roots heated the pile of rocks in the sauna for a Finn Steam Bath. It took all afternoon of burning to make enough retained heat and hot water so all who came could have a bath. Neighbors who had no sauna came as did lumberjacks from Clark who heard of the sauna from Dad as he mended their sleighs, shod their teams and fixed their chains. Ah, yes, lines from a poem mean many things to many people. To me it brings memories of my Dad John and little mother Sanni who passed away at 88 and 92, respectively, in the spring of 1975. The hard work of clearing away the stumps did not seem to shorten their lives. Vieno Nieminen Keskimaki Withee, Wisconsin 54498
With the talent for laying the stones in a dug well, Emer Robinson built this stone wall in 1940. The stones were from the Black River in the town of Eaton. It is located at the home of his widow at 1005 Hewett in Neillsville.
Frank Kutzler can appreciate the usefulness of the stumps made into a fence on his father's farm. John Kutzler brought his family along a trail into the wilderness in Section 6 in the Town of Eaton.
