Officers are Chosen by Legion Auxiliary
At the Legion Auxiliary meeting Tuesday evening, Dr. Sarah Rosekrans was speaker. She wore her Finnish costume, a gift from Finland, and she gave a very interesting talk on her travels abroad. She showed many gifts which she received while visiting in Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Sixteen ladies of the Greenwood Legion Auxiliary were guests.
Installation of officers was a highlight. Mrs. Fred Behrens, a past president of the Greenwood Legion Auxiliary and also past president of the county auxiliary, acted as installing officer.
Following are the new officers for the ensuing year: president, Sarah Seelow; vice president, Emma Hauge; second vice president, Amelia Hagie; treasurer, Minerva Viergutz; chaplain, Lydia St. Dennis; sergeant-at-arms, Gladys Rychnovsky; historian, Elsie Dahnert.
The membership drive for the Legion Auxiliary will begin next week with two teams, Sarah Seelow, captain of on team and Marian Kunze, captain of the other. The team renewing and bringing in the most, new members will be guests of the other team to a treat. The drive ends October 30.

Pageant Will be Held on Saturday
Girl Scouts Will Re-enact Dedication of Camp Edith Macy
A tree will be planted in Schuster Park Sunday afternoon, September 18, at the Girl Scout program as the girls re-enact the dedication of Camp Edith Macy during the World Conference of Girl Scouts in May 1926. Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scout movement in England, planted the tree at the World Conference, where he was a guest of honor. His sister, Lady Baden-Powell, founder of the Girl Guides in England, was also in attendance. Juliette Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts in America, was the honored guest and Dean Sarah Louise Arnold, the president of Girl Scouts, was in charge of the conference.
Lord Baden-Powell is portrayed by Wayne Grap; Lady Baden-Powell, Robert Kurth; Dean Sarah Louise Arnold, Mary Ann Smith. Others taking important parts in the program will be Ardes Wang as narrator; Diane Seif, in charge of properties; and Carol Thompson, who will take the part of Miss Nina Pape, a friend of Juliette Low. The part of Juliette Low, herself, will be taken by Dorothy Thompson.
A pageant based on the life of Juliette Low will be enacted by over 130 girls. The Brownies will commemorate her childhood, while the Intermediates will play the part of her founding of Girl Scouts. The Junior High and Senior High School troops will together re-enact the World Campfire. Each girl will represent a country that sent a delegate to the conference and will, like those girls in 1926, place a fagot on the World Campfire. The troop of Girl Scouts from the Indian School will also be in attendance.
The annual Court of Awards of the Neillsville Girl Scouts, including the Brownies, will be held at this program. Nine Brownies, under the leadership of Mrs. William Yenni, will fly up to Intermediate Scouts; ten Intermediates will be welcomed into Senior Scouts.
The program is scheduled to take place in Schuster Park Sunday, September 18, at 2 o’clock. In case of rain, the program will take place in the armory, through the courtesy of Herman North. The affair is public.

Richmond-Horn Wedding
The West Side Reformed Church at Greenwood was the recent scene of the wedding of Miss Betty Jane Richmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Richmond of Greenwood, R2, and Norman Horn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Horn, of Greenwood, R4. The wedding occurred on Saturday, September 3.
The bride chose for her wedding a white satin entrained gown styled with long, pointed sleeves and a yoke, trimmed with net and beads. Her fingertip veil of lace was caught to a satin hat. She carried a shower bouquet of red Chinese rosebuds and white carnations.
Her attendants were her sister, Miss Lila Richmond of Greenwood, Miss Lois Karnitz of Neillsville and Miss Laverne Hause of Greenwood. They were gowned in pink and aqua taffeta.
The groom’s attendants were his cousin, Gerald Horn of Greenwood and the bride’s cousin, Kenneth Karnitz of Neillsville. Jesse Richmond and Darwin Horn were ushers.
The young people are both graduates of the Greenwood High School. The groom is a truck driver for the Pleasant Ridge Cheese Factory.

Mrs. Hubert Quicker entertained her contract bridge club Wednesday evening. Prizes were won by Mrs. Joe Urlaub, Mrs. Frank Svetlik and Mrs. Harold Imig.
Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Bardell visited Thursday evening with his mother, Mrs. Minnie Bardell, and their daughter, Donna, who is staying with her grandmother and attending high school.
Billy Neville, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Neville, has been having a bad infection in his leg and was unable to start school with the rest of his classmates this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Quicker drove to Eau Claire Friday to take their son, Denny to Luther Hospital for treatment. Denny is improving from his bout with polio.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dux and daughter, Carol Jean, drove to La Crosse to visit her sister, Mrs. LaVern Rowe, on Thursday.
St. Mary’s Catholic School opened September 7 with an enrollment of 100 - 64 boys and 36 girls.
The faculty of St. Mary’s Catholic School attended the Teacher’s Convention in La Crosse on Tuesday.
Irving Gall and Edward Gall from the Owen Hospital visited Mr. Fred Bruley on Saturday morning.

Thorp Happenings
The remains of Capt. Wesley D. Stokey, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Stookey of Thorp, will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at St. Louis, MO., on September 27. He met death while a prisoner of the Japanese.
Billie Darge, 13, son of Mrs. Clara Darge of Thorp, R3, and Robert Przybylski, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Przybylski, Thorp, are ill with polio.
A daughter, Natalie Jo Ann, has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Alois Ciolkosz.
James Wavrunek and his brother have returned to Neillsville after spending the summer with their grandmother, Mrs. Georgia Collins, in Butler.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Artac are the parents of a baby boy since September 5, born at home.
Rev. Odilo Hajnsek and some parishioners from the Holy Family Church at Willard were present Sunday night at Marshfield at the Holy Name Society meeting.
Miss Emily Morgal has arrived here from Chicago for a short stay with her folks.

Seliskar-Chernagory wedding
George Seliskar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gregor and Agnes Seliskar, Greenwood and Miss Olga Chernagory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Chernagory of Eveleth, Minn., became bride and groom on September 3 at the Holy Family Church in Eveleth. The Rev. A. L. Pirnat officiated. T
he bride was gowned in white satin with a French illusion veil, which fell from a sweetheart bonnet and carried a bouquet of white roses, centered with an orchid. Mrs. Valentine Gruska, sister of the bride as matron of honor, wore a light green gown with a matching bonnet and carried a bouquet of yellow roses. Mr. Valentine Gruska, served as best man. They are from Virginia, Minn.
The bride, who was employed as a public health nurse in San Joaquin Local Health District, Lodi, Cal., the past year is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds a BS degree.
The young couple will reside in Greenwood, where the groom is owner and operator of the Greenwood Body Shop.

Mr. and Mrs. William Reynolds have returned to their home in Yakima, Wash., after visiting at the A. W. Short home.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Buss have moved from the Noyes residence to an apartment over the Jack Sprat store in Humbird. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lindner of Eau Claire have moved into the Noyes house.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Reider have returned to their home in Rockford, Ill.
The Roy Jeffery family has returned to Humbird after spending the summer months in South Dakota.
Miss Ellen Raether has resumed her teaching duties at Pocatello, Id.
Mrs. Wesley Searles of Kelowna, British Columbia, Can., was a recent guest at the Jenswold home in Humbird.

Mrs. Walter Trachte entertained the Homemakers Club Thursday. There were nine members in attendance and two visitors. The old officers were re-elected for another year. The ladies tied a quilt for the Bernard Kuhn family, who lost most of their possessions in their fi re last week.
Silo filling in this vicinity is nearly completed and most everyone has many acres of corn left. It was a bumper crop this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kuhn and son and Robert Kuhn were Sunday visitors at the Paul Kuhn home helping celebrate Mr. Kuhn’s birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Short and son were supper guests at the Frank Short home Sunday.
Robert Kuhn of Janesville spent the weekend with his brother, Bernard and family, and the Paul and Ernest Kuhn families.
Byron Trachte spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Trachte.
Ernest Kuhn and Walter Trachte pulled jury duty this week.
A shower was to be held at the town hall Wednesday evening for the Bernard Kuhn family.
Mrs. Lydia Krutsch assisted with household work at the Albert Zank home a few days last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Phillips entertained several relatives and friends from Illinois recently.

Mrs. F. E. Winn
Mrs. Romanzo Davis entertained several ladies at her home Friday Afternoon, the occasion being her birthday.
The executive board of the Woman’s Civic Club met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. F. E. Winn to make final plans for the opening of the club sessions. The first will be on Wednesday, September 21, at the Community Hall.
Mrs. Clark Waterman spent several days last week at the George Beeckler home in Neillsville, Mrs. Beeckler having suffered a severe burn that kept her confined to her bed. This week Mrs. Waterman is also acting as juror in circuit court.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Winn and his mother, Mrs. C. L. Winn, Marshfield, called to several homes Sunday. Bernard has enrolled at Teachers’ College in Stevens Point for a course in business management.
Miss Doris Winn left Sunday for Eau Claire to take up her duties as teacher in the public schools there.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Penzenstadler, Waukegan, Ill., have been here visiting her mother, Mrs. Lee Gower and brother, Irving.

Observe 80th Birthday of Mrs. Bertha Mitte

More Than 50 Friends and Relatives Attend Party at Schoenherr Home
Nearly a half-hundred friends and relatives were entertained Friday by Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schoenherr in honor of the 80th birthday anniversary of Mrs. Schoenherr’s mother, Mrs. Berth Mitte.
In apparent good health, Mrs. Mitte wore a corsage of carnations and sweet peas as she received the congratulations of the many who gathered at the Schoenherr home, where she makes her home.
Forming centerpieces for the birthday table were two large cakes, one of which came from Milwaukee. The other was made by Mrs. Schoenherr and carried 80 pink and white candles.
Among those attending were Mrs Walter Mitte and Mrs. Erwin Cramer of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lueck and daughters; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stiemke; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grap and son, Marvin; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mitte and family; Mr. and Mrs. Harold and George Thoma and their families; Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Grap and family; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dux and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schlinkert; Mrs. Helene Scheel; Mr. and Mrs. William Hoffman and family; Mrs. Leonard Schultz and son, William, and daughter; Mrs. Martha Hoffman; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mills and family; and Mr. and Mrs. Lebrecht Kalsow.
