Our Newest Website Project

Ron Webster of Granton was in the possession of a box of VERY old Granton Newspapers. It appeared they ranged from 1904-1921 along with a few copies from the mid thirties.  A few weeks ago, Stan and I delivered these precious, but quickly deteriorating papers to the Wisconsin State Historical Society in Madison, WI for micro-filming which is expected to destroy the original copies because they are in such fragile condition.  This will preserve many years of newspaper history for the Granton area which was previously thought to be lost but had in fact been stored in the vault of the village hall in Granton.

We were told it could take from 6 mos. to 2 yrs. for the process to be completed after we agreed to purchase one complete set of reels for the Clark Co., WI Library Services.  Each reel costs $80 and the film archivist expects the collection will span 10-12 reels.  We will use some of our website funds to pay for these extremely rare materials.  If you are interested in helping with the expense, please send your contribution to Dick Adler (his address can be found near the top of this page beneath our support roster.

Once the filming is complete, we hope to transcribe the obits, marriages and local news for the website and then we will have the actual films archived in Clark Co., WI where they will be available through inter-library loan in any of the county libraries.
