Granton Multi-Class Reunion
Held August 6, 2010

Granton High School alumni from as far back as 1933 through 1961 gathered at the American Legion Hall in Neillsville Aug. 6, 2010.  Ninety-nine alumni were present.  Counting spouses and/or children, there were about 150 present.

Alvin Spaete served as master of ceremonies.  He commented on the growth of the school, stating it reflected the pride the Granton area has for its school. Graduate Reverend Allen Montgomery gave the invocation.

The only former teacher attending was Ray Urban, who was principal and also a teacher in the late 30’s.  He reminisced about his days at Granton and being the first to teach a class in conservation.

Each class was recognized as the names of those present were read. The class of 1933 had one member present, Irlene Wagner.  The class of 1937 had just one also, Orville Evenson.  Attending from the class of 1939 were Harold Behnke, Lorraine (Garbisch) Wenck and Leolene (Grassman) Winn. Class of 1940 had just Warren Cattanach and Anna (Haines) Liebzeit.  Class of 1941 had Neva (Bartz) Larson, Theresa (Moeller) Mallory, Garfield Freeberg, Irene (Brinkmier) James and George Matas.  From the class of 1942 attending were Walter and Violet (Foemmel) Korth, Elaine Helm, Melvin Bandt, Louie Rosandich and Gladys (Pigott) Karl.  The class of 1943 saw Helen (Rosandich) and Vernon Wegner attending.  From the class of 1944 attending were Gene Haines, Cliff Reidel, Shirley (Kayser) Freeburg and Fay (Quicker) Opelt.  Attending from the class of 1945 was Laura Mae (Elmhorst) Wegner.  The class of 1946 had Amanda (Rosandich) Gleniecke, Arthur Jennings and Delores Storm attending. From the class of 1947 were Duane Anding, Evelyn (Smith) Nimmer, Stan Madler, Margie (Kirk) Garbisch and Doris (Pigott) Gardner. The class of 1948 had Harland Bartsch, Merle and Jane (Crothers) Bartsch and Wendell Storm in attendance.  The class of 1949 saw James Dorst, Darlene (Nowach) Hurtis, Erlin Dahl, Forest Foemmel, Lorraine (Sternitzky) Nowak and Emily (McHone) Winstead attending.

The class of 1950 had in attendance Earl Zeigler, Edna (Stauffacher) Rose, Robert Witte, Theron Sternitzky, Gene Cattanach, Darlene (Krejci) Celar and Evelyn (Erickson) Porter.  The class of 1951 had attending Irene (Keuer) Dahl, Jerome Smith, La Vern and Grace (Scholz) Schier and LaVonne (Sternitzky) Schmidt.  The class of 1952 had Joe and Alice (Jennings) Kirk, Norman Wesenberg and Lila (Sternitzky) Schmitz attending.  Attending for the class of 1953 were Al Spaete, Jerry Schmitz, Don and Lavon (Garbisch) Bartsch and Walter Stauffacher. The class of 1954 had Carol Jean (Garbisch) Wesenberg, Ronnie Garbisch, Zelda (Pigott) Janke, Richard Erickson, Eleanor (Marek) Arneson, Alice (Erickson) Schlinsog and Larry Schmidke attending.  The class of 1955 saw Leland Krause, Roger Winch, Annebelle (Keuer) Garbisch, Roger Helm and Kenneth Jennings attending.  The class of 1956 had in attendance Betty (Sternitzky) Baxter, Allen Sternitzky, William Wagner and Mary (Howard) Zieroth.  The Class of 1958 was represented by Donna (Dayton) Zank.

Attending from the class of 1960 were Darrel Marty, Eldon Lee, Rev. Allen Montgomery, Peter Schreiber, Bernice (Wolf) Cliver, Marvin Schlinsog, Raymond Payne and Beverly (Stillman) Vine.  Attending from the class of 1961 were Ed Schumacher, Olive Coyle, Norbert Lee, Jerome Foemmel, Richard Cain, Joyce (Garbisch) Opelt, Barbara (Sternitzky) Teter, Donna (Tomkings) Vine, George (Buddy) Barten and David Rand.

All those who served in the military were recognized and thanked.

The next reunion will be held the first Saturday of August 2012.
