JOSEPH C. ZIMMERMAN, barber, was born in Switzerland, Nov. 22, 1846. He is a son of Joseph and Agnes (Darms) Zimmerman, who came with their family to Honey Creek, Sauk Co., Wis., when Joseph was an infant of only eleven months. They lived in Sauk County four years, then removed to La Crosse County, being among the pioneers of that locality. Joseph went to Minnesota in 1865. A year later he entered the 4th Regular Infantry, U. S. Army, as musician. Served three years, being stationed at Ft. Laramie considerable of the time, also at Ft. Sedgwick for awhile. In 1870, he returned to Wisconsin, and resided at Tomah until 1871, when he came to Augusta. He has worked at his present business for twelve years. He was married at Osseo, Wis., in September, 1875, to Nettie Day. She was born in Massena, St. Lawrence Co., N. Y. They have one child, Agnes M., born Aug. 23, 1876.
